8101 West Centeral - Wichita · Design/Bid/Build with SJCF Architecture
A capital campaign at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School raised money for much needed construction. Phase I of the project included construction of an activities center and classrooms. The facility is 79,000-square-feet and includes a 2,000-seat gymnasium, wrestling room, locker rooms for physical education classes and athletic teams, coaches’ offices and rooms for athletic trainers. In addition to the activity center, Phase I also included a 24,000-square-foot shell for 15 classrooms.
The main entrance features a glass curtain wall and a curved wall made of burnish block. A stone wall from the existing school was reused as a new wall in the main corridor and incorporated decorative ceramic floor tiles which provide a stunning visual for visitors.
A top loaded gymnasium required a 14 foot deep basement and was designed for seating on all four sides of the facility. In addition, the school has the flexibility to keep the side bleachers closed during smaller events.
School was in session throughout most of the build and ensuring students were safe by strategically planning the expansion helped preserve the learning environment. Strong planning and management coupled with solid subcontractor relationships allowed us to complete phase I of the Bishop Carroll Catholic High School build in just 17 months, on time and on budget.
